height: 30px;\"><\/div>\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                \n\n<div class=\"kksr-legend\" style=\"font-size: 24px;\">\n            5\/5 - (1 vote)    <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<p>In the last three years, electric scooters have positioned themselves as an extremely popular means of transport, but with the rise of this new means of transport, <strong>the number of accidents related to their use has also increased.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is mainly due to two causes: the lack of clear regulation, and the reckless use by users, which, combined with external elements such as urban infrastructure, cars or pedestrians, create scenarios that greatly favor accidents.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10994 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-1176515434-530x397.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-1176515434-530x397.jpg 530w, https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-1176515434-1125x844.jpg 1125w, https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-1176515434-200x150.jpg 200w, https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-1176515434-125x94.jpg 125w, https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-1176515434.jpg 1183w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Electric scooters can reach speeds of up to 45 km \/ h, and <strong>the little or, in most cases, non-existent protection of the users makes them very vulnerable in falls<\/strong>, being especially frequent the traumatic injuries in the extremities and, much more worrisome, in the craniofacial zone.<\/p>\n<p>The statistics among injured electric scooter users are disturbing: a study conducted in the United States showed that<strong> almost 60% have craniofacial lesions<\/strong>, with more than half of them considered as severe and where most affect the upper third of the head, the frontal area above the eyes; or to the facial middle third.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The conclusion of this study suggests that <strong>users of electric scooters are especially vulnerable to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/en\/tratamiento\/oral-and-maxillofacial-surgery-facial-trauma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">craniofacial trauma<\/a> and injuries to the face and extremities<\/strong>, the former being the most worrying and also the most easily avoidable through the use of a protective helmet.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Currently 94% of electric scooter users circulate without a helmet; that is why <strong>the Spanish Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Head and Neck (Secom CyC) has started a campaign for the use of the integral helmet to circulate in an electric scooter to reduce craniofacial trauma. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-10993 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-495350431-530x634.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"308\" height=\"368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-495350431-530x634.jpg 530w, https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-495350431-1125x1346.jpg 1125w, https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-495350431-1283x1536.jpg 1283w, https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-495350431-1711x2048.jpg 1711w, https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-495350431-167x200.jpg 167w, https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/iStock-495350431-104x125.jpg 104w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 308px) 100vw, 308px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although there are not yet specially designed and approved helmets for this use,<strong> the use of a bicycle helmet can mean a high degree of protection against the most common craniofacial injuries in electric scooter accidents:<\/strong> fracture, internal bleeding, head trauma or loss of consciousness.
