To minimize these effects, the medical team of the <strong>Maxillofacial Institute<\/strong> has designed<strong> a new technique<\/strong> that is implemented as a <strong>complementary process<\/strong> during a surgery that involves a <strong>bilateral sagittal osteotomy<\/strong> (BSSO).<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-8625 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/plastisma.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"324\" height=\"327\" srcset=\"https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/plastisma.png 324w, https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/plastisma-198x200.png 198w, https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/plastisma-125x125.png 125w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 324px) 100vw, 324px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The technique consists of using the same incision that is made to carry out the osteotomy,<strong> reaching and elevating the platysma muscle<\/strong> (which goes under the skin and the subcutaneous tissue of the neck) to its highest position through a suture that is later suspended of the mini titanium plates placed in the jaw during <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/en\/orthognathic-surgery\/what-is-orthognathic-surgey\/\">orthognathic surgery<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In this way, the tension of the platysma elevates the submandibular gland and neck muscle to a more youthful position, <strong>improving the prominence and contour of the jaw<\/strong> without having to remove the salivary glands or carry out additional procedures to elevate the skin of the neck, like a neck lifting.<\/p>\n<p>This procedure has proven to be clinically effective, <a href=\"https:\/\/content.www.institutomaxilofacial.com\/en\/orthognathic-surgery\/minimally-invasive-surgery\/\"><strong>minimally invasive<\/strong><\/a>, technically undemanding and with lasting results.
