Therefore, there is a potential for <strong>infection<\/strong> due to this <strong>bacterial biofilm<\/strong>.\u00a0A positive relationship has been established between adequate <strong>oral hygiene <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>prevention of peri-implant diseases<\/strong>. It has been speculated that <strong>peri-implant<\/strong> tissues may have a lower capacity of response against external aggressions due to a number of anatomic differences when compared with <strong>teeth<\/strong>. It is therefore extremely important to control risk factors and establish and adequate <strong>plaque control<\/strong> in order to prevent <strong>peri-implant<\/strong> <strong>diseases<\/strong> from occurring around\u00a0<strong>dental implants<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the first part of this chapter the reader will be guided through the main steps of a proper and accurate <strong>diagnosis<\/strong>.
