Valentino came to Instituto Maxilofacial with a skeletal Class III malocclusion caused mainly by the position of his upper jaw: the maxilla sat too far back and lacked vertical height, which flattened the middle of his face, created an underbite and made it hard to bring his teeth together properly. His lower jaw was also deviated to one side.
His treatment, planned and performed by Prof. Federico Hernández-Alfaro, combined orthodontics with double jaw (bimaxillary) surgery. The upper jaw was moved forward and downward, and the lower jaw was advanced and centred to correct its deviation. Repositioning both jaws together restored the bite and the balance between the different thirds of the face, while also improving support for the nose and lips.
In this video, recorded exactly two months after surgery, Valentino shares the changes he noticed from the very first days and speaks honestly about what recovery felt like, along with the advice he would give anyone about to go through the same process.
